Atlas of Nation (2024-ongoing)
Atlas of Nation series delves into my personal emotions and interpretations regarding the connection between a nation's sovereignty and its symbols and myths. Unlike a conventional atlas, which typically presents statistical data on geology, economics, and politics, this series highlights my personal and profound experiences and impressions of sovereignty drawn from my travels. Currently, the series features three territories: the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam), known for its modernist state architecture infused with feng shui; Singapore, symbolized by the orchid, cultivated by an Armenian immigrant botanist; and Hawaii, rich in mythology, where the earth and heavens are said to have birthed the taro plant and humans regarded as siblings. The artwork is crafted from a multitude of 3D scan data that I meticulously collected in the field and by employing various software tools to decode the visual phenomena captured by the scans. The series will continue to evolve as I embark on new journeys and emotional engagement with the land there.
