Vinh - The Ideal Communist
Ink, Yupo translucent paper on found old map
80 x 60 cm

PLATTENLOTUS begins with the history of Plattenbau, the prefabricated housing system developed in East Germany and later introduced to Vietnam through projects such as the Quang Trung Housing Estate in Vinh. Beyond architecture, the work considers the ideological ambition of shaping an ideal communist city - and an ideal communist life. Projected into a speculative future inhabited by ambiguous cyborg figures, part human, machine, and perhaps ghost, the work asks how such an ideal might persist, mutate, or become spiritual in another form. The lotus introduces a parallel register of Vietnamese national identity, binding ideology, technology, and belief into a single imagined world.
